This is a perspective view of the inside of the Odin cold area showing an example of the 3-dimensional quasi-optical ray tracing analysis that was done for the Odin radiometer. From the mixer point of view (in yellow in the right side of the image) you see the 35db edge taper envelope of a Gaussian beam (in green) emanating from the feedhorns. After passing through a polarizing grid for separation into the two channels, the beam reflects off a mirror and then out of the cold box. The contours of the mirror shown here are in dB relative power where the beam strikes the surface of the off axis ellipsoid mirror. The inner contour is -5dB followed outwards by -15dB, -25dB and -35dB. The last contour shows the physical boundary of the mirror in the slab of aluminium.
