Attention: Ms. Debra Wilson, Program Manager
The positions will involve supporting the planning, software preparation, analysis and documentation required for the Legacy data products, for testing and characterization of MIPS through in-orbit checkout, and for support of the MIPS GTO science program. SIRTF is currently scheduled for launch in July, 2002, after which the positions would involve primarily reduction and analysis of scientific data and release and publication of the results. Although responsibilities with the SIRTF programs must have priority, the positions incluude access to other research capabilities at Steward Observatory, such as the 6.5-m MMT, the 6.5-m Magellan Telescope, and the 10-m HHT submm telescope.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or related field, and have experience in astronomical data reductions, image processing, and/or space flight instrumentation. Previous involvement in infrared astronomy is not a requirement. Applicants should indicate if they have special interest in one or more of the three programs. In exceptional cases, it may be possible to divide time between programs.
The positons can be at the Research Associate or at the Assistant Astronomer level at Steward Observatory, at salaries from $38,000 to $47,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Review of materials will begin February 1, 2001, and will continue until positions are filled. Please send a curriculum vitae, a statement of experience and research interests, and the names of three references to Ms. Debra Wilson at Steward Observatory, at the above address.
